Jelly (NOT Jell-O) in the Bowl!

Another baby rhyme this week. I'm confounded by all the rhymes that have to do with shaking babies. The only major piece of parenting advice I gleaned from pop culture in my twenties was "Don't Shake Your Baby!" Every time I tell caregivers at babytime to shake their babies, I feel a little guilty. Adding the caveat "but not too hard" helps assuage my anxiety a tiny bit.

I have to clarify that the jelly in this rhyme is created by adding sugar to fresh fruit and boiling water, then sifting through a cheesecloth. No gelatin is used! It is definitely not Jell-O or any other congealed dessert item. I refuse to sing songs to babies about gooey rendered animal parts. Yuck! But I digress...

On to the rhyme:

Jelly in the bowl,
Jelly in the bowl,
Wibble, Wobble, Wibble, Wobble,
Jelly in the Bowl!
Joggle baby back and forth on your knee

Candles on the cake,
Candles on the cake,
Blow them out, blow them out,
Candles on the cake!
Bounce baby up and down,
blow on back of baby's head
after each time you say cake

Candies in the jar,
Candies in the jar,
Shake ‘em up, shake ‘em up,
Candies in the jar!
shake the baby (GENTLY!)
to the rhythm of the rhyme
it freaks me out just typing that

Thanks to Miss Mollie at What Happens in Storytime for hosting this week's:
