This is a vegetarian remix of the “This Little Piggy”
rhyme. As a child, I always thought it
was a little gross to think about pigs eating cow flesh. I was happy to find this alternate version. Hopefully,
the piggy who went to market was going on a shopping trip and not to her doom.
The felt pigs are based on the San-X character, Piggy Girl.
This little piggy went to market,
This little piggy stayed home,
This little piggy had jam and bread,
This little piggy had none,
And this little piggy cried,
“Wee, wee, wee” all the way home.
When saying the rhyme you can count off the child’s
fingers or toes, ending with the little toe/finger. Proceed to tickle when the
final piggy goes “Wee wee wee.”
"Jam and bread" is a good one!! I've been saying "cupcakes" when I sing with my daughter, although my mom thinks I should say "roast veggies." But cupcakes always win. I'll throw jam and bread in there too. I hadn't thought of using This Little Piggy in storytime, but now I will! Your flannel boards are the best!
